War in Williamson County (and Liberal Media Bias)

nas-wcscandidates
There is a war in Williamson County, TN. It is the Socialists vs. the Constitutionalists.

It is not a fair fight. The media is biased. Channel 5 and The Tennessean are guilty.

Because less than 20% of voters showed up at the last election, this conservative-dominated county has a School Board that is currently controlled by Liberals/Progressives. They support the new, untried, federally mandated “Common Core,” because they support Big Government and Socialism. Some of them have an R next to their name. They don’t want to give up their ideology or their power.

There are some candidates running for the School Board in this upcoming August 7 election that are Anti-Common Core; Businessman/Father/Grandfather Dan Cash, 25-year-veteran school teacher Candy Emerson, Medical Doctor of 25 years Dr. Beth Burgos, and 20-year-Business-Woman/Mother Susan Curlee. (I’m running for Commissioner District 2 and I’m Anti-Common Core, so I support these candidates.) These candidates are threatening the powers that be.

I have watched this war since last year. I have been at the Capitol sitting next to these concerned moms/teachers. We are now experts on Common Core, unlike Cherie Hammond who keeps repeating that CC is about “high standards.” It’s not. It’s about socialism. Cherie is Pro-Common Core and endorsed by the AFL-CIO. The Democrat Party endorsed candidate Melody Morris who is Pro-Common Core. See story here about a Ravenwood High School parent’s discovery in her 10th grader’s textbook.

The Tennessean writes, “Jim Cheney, spokesman for “Williamson Strong,” says they are not trying to attack the candidates as individuals, but what the ‘parent group’ believes is that the candidates have a politically motivated agenda.”

What The Tennessean fails to explain is that the very-newly-formed “parent group” “Williamson Strong” is the epitome of politically motivated! It is not “non-partisan.” It only promotes Liberal candidates. Williamson Strong is actually an SEIU supported web site and Facebook that doesn’t allow conservative posts or comments. (There are many ObamaCore “parent groups” popping up around the country and many have the word “strong” in them.) It’s founding ‘team’ included Susan Drury who is paid over $ 90,000 a year by the S.E.I.U. As soon as I posted that on FB, her bio and name disappeared. Another team member on “Williamson Strong” is Jennifer Smith whose husband is the C.E.O. of Censis Technologies – GSA healthcare (ObamaCare!!). Williamson Strong is a sham ‘parent group’ propping up pro-commie core incumbents and candidates!!

(See story here.)
Read the origin of the conflict about Dr. Looney here.
(See this story the local media is not reporting – TCAP scores are terrible.)

Common Core is not a “political agenda” being pushed by a “small, vocal minority” as The Tennessean reported…it is currently the most important issue of our nation and being dumped by an increasing number of states and counties everyday. Gov. Bobby Jindal just publicly denounced it. See story on Common Core’s downfall here.

Why is it a dividing issue? Because half of us aren’t going to succumb to the Progressive socialist movement. Half of us are fighting to retain parental rights and the freedoms our Constitution guarantees us. The other half are socialists, apathetic or uninformed. Sometimes division is necessary. Sometimes good needs to triumph over evil. And, the battle isn’t easy.

Why didn’t Channel 5 air the entire statement made by candidate Dr. Burgos? They certainly let Pro-Common Core liberal Eric Welch have air time to run a free ad for his campaign. The media hasn’t reported the fact that Eric Welch has been knocking on doors of people who have Dr. Burgos’ signs in their yard to slander her. There are witnesses.

Since the media only reports one side, here is actually the un-edited statement Dr. Beth Burgos read aloud to the press today;

“Thank you all for coming. I am Dr. Beth Burgos, candidate for Williamson County School Board, District 10.

Recently, the election process for WC school board has taken a turn for the worse, and when an absurd article hit the front page of the Tennessean two days ago, we knew it was time to respond. We believe that the citizens of Williamson County deserve to know the truth.

We are four individual candidates who have come to know each other over the course of our separate campaigns for Williamson County School Board.

None of us previously knew each other except for myself and former educator Candy Emerson. Ms. Emerson taught my children in public school.

We find it disturbing that special interest groups would stoop to ANY measure to protect the status quo by attacking candidates who dare challenge the incumbents in an election. Rather than debating the issues, these groups have poisoned the water and turned a non-partisan race into a political, mud-slinging sideshow. Furthermore, since this is a non-partisan race why has the Democrat party endorse the incumbents?

Each of us has been accused of:
· Being part of a “secret group” interested in ousting our superintendent
· Supporting Commissioner Huffman
· Making our moves to destroy our public schools, and
· Wanting to take over the school board.

Nothing is further from the truth.

All each of us has done is offer ourselves as public servants to the parents and voters of Williamson County.

We acknowledge that there have been numerous emails sent out that we have been copied on. We cannot control what other people write or even the emails they send to us or what might be said in those emails. Because we have been recipients of those emails they have found us guilty by association.

Not one of us has remotely entertained or expressed the desire to replace our superintendent Dr. Looney. Each of us look forward to working with him and supporting him in in his job as our superintendent and the quest to offer the best education possible in Williamson County.

NO ONE and NO “special interest” group has asked ANY of us to run.
Individually we are seeking the office of school board under our own accord.

There is no “secret group,” no conspiracy, no master plan, just citizens stepping up to offer themselves in public service. We have not made any of our campaigns political or partisan. BUT … a fair election process has been ROBBED FROM US by; highly partisan groups and individuals under the auspices of Williamson Strong, Williamson Secrets, SEIU (labor union), pro- common core supporters, and those who deliberately take personal citizen emails and turn our electoral process into a witch-hunt.

The bullying, thuggery, and misinformation tactics used by these groups and individuals dishonor the parents, students, teachers, voters, Dr. Looney, the school board as a whole, and us as candidates who have done NOTHING but offer ourselves as public servants. We are Moms, Dads and Grandparents who have stepped up to serve our fellow citizens and the children of our community.

We are all professionals who can offer a wealth of knowledge and insight to our school board.

I am Dr. Beth Burgos, a family medical doctor for over 23 years here in Williamson County;
Ms. Candy Emerson is a former educator in the Williamson County Public Schools;
Ms. Susan Curlee is a business woman with over 20 years in the marketing arena;
Mr. Dan Cash is retired after spending his career in leadership with the Saturn Corporation.

We all will bring a wealth of expertise and experience to the school board if we are elected to serve.

We are proud of and love our schools and our community and we ask the parents and voters in Williamson County for their trust and their vote on August 7.”

My recent story, Sneaky Snakes in WC backs up Dr. Burgos’ statement.

On a personal note, I’ve watched the current School Board’s reactions when concerned parents speak their 90 seconds, yes only 90 seconds is allowed. They look like frozen, cold zombies. They don’t respond, or engage. They look angry that someone else is speaking. They behave as lords over the peasants. This is completely unacceptable. The incumbents have got to go.

    There are no socialists in this county. Just because a woman does some work for the SEIU does not mean that Williamson Strong is associated with the SEIU as well. What exactly does Censis Technologies have to do with Obamacare? And why are you associating the Husband’s job with the wife’s politics? Please explain to me how common core is socialistic in nature. And how exactly do you and these candidates intend on protecting “the freedoms our constitution guarantees” by winning a schoolboard election?
