The Family Business?!
I, Victoria Jackson Wessel, (the mother of Scarlet Elizabeth Wessel Hiltibidal), (her married name), was in a movie called, “Family Business” in the late 80’s, directed by the famous Sidney Lumet and starring Sean Connery, Dustin Hoffman, and Matthew Broderick. I was very honored to be in their company. The movie was about how some things are just “generational.” Heredity or environment? They were a family of criminals. Even if you resist or rebel, some things just get passed down from generation to generation. Right?
The Bible says, “I the Lord…visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.” (Exodus 20:5; Numbers 14:18) So are people doomed to repeat the sins/mistakes/victories of their parents and grandparents? Doesn’t God give each individual soul the choice to obey Him or reject Him? (John 3:16) John Piper has an article on this. Link here.
My daughter Scarlet was about 3 years old when I did my 3 scenes in that movie, “Family Business.” Since then, we’ve lived in different places, LA, NY, CT, Miami, and TN. I turned 59, had 2 husbands, 2 daughters, wrote 2 books, did some movie roles and some stand-up. Scarlet turned 32, had 1 husband, 2 daughters, adopted a deaf Chinese girl, taught school, wrote a best-seller devotional, “The Weekly Prayer Project,” Link here.
…and has now written her autobiography, “Afraid of All the Things.” Link here.
Every interviewer asks her, “Why were you so afraid as a child?”
Yeah. I want to know too. I was the perfect mother. She had a perfect life. She was adored, well-fed, well-educated, well-protected. I was wondering if her book was going to be a “Mommy Dearest?!”
Graciously, she only mentions the positive aspects of those around her, and focuses on her life and the only hope we humans have in this broken world – Jesus Christ, Messiah, Healer, Provider, Friend, Savior, All-Mighty God.
Her book is funny and uplifting. And, I must say, I’m proud to be the tree the apple didn’t fall far from!
Now…Scarlet has a newest, new book!!! It’s called “HE NUMBERED THE PORES ON MY FACE!” Release date is Summer of 2019!!!
Scarlet started writing her autobiography when she was 8 years old. I knew she was going to be a great writer. Here is what the cover looked like.
